Orcham lithophanies are unique, one-off creations that combine light and transparency, quality design and modern technology.
Thanks to their versatility and tailor-made aesthetics, these luminaires are ideal for architects and interior designers who want to give a very personal touch to projects of all sizes.
Principle: the thicker the material, the less light it lets through, creating a dark area; the thinner the material, the more light it lets through, creating a light area. This lithophanie process was invented 200 years ago, and was most often carried out on flat surfaces. More historical details on dedicated Wikipedia page.
Originally made of porcelain, expensive but above all extremely fragile, this technique has been brought up to date by 3D printing and the production of much stronger plastic.
What makes lithophanies unique and aesthetically very different from a black and white photo is the deep relief (at least on Orcham lithophanies), which provides soft contours and very gradual shadow gradation, while at the same time rendering fine details and a 3D visual effect that varies according to the viewpoint.

Orcham lithophanies are made up of two elements (in addition to the packaging, Orcham cotton bag, box and instructions - depending on the model - ).

The lithophane support and its light source
- Wireless stand for on-the-go or summer use. The LED source is rechargeable via USB, like a cell phone, and offers a choice of RGB colors. An optional remote control allows infinite color and intensity settings.
The holder is designed to hold our LED source, but can also hold most wireless sources on the market, such as waterproof sources.
- Wired stand 220-240V: standard E14 bulb, choice of wattage and color, easy to maintain over the long term
- reconstituted stone version: with an aesthetic similar to our game EleganceThis model shows off its stone grain and glitter for fixed use in classic interiors.
- cord version: the support is wrapped with a textile cord. This thick cord is available in various types (jute and cotton to date) or colors (burgundy red, navy blue, gold, to date); like all this range, this version can be easily customized to match the surrounding furniture.
- durable thermoplastic version: white or orange, with an engraved texture of your choice, they appear sober when switched off, but become translucent and very warm when lit, visually extending the lithophane downwards.
- Suspension (on request)
- The garland: designed for professional installation, it allows ten different models to be displayed in height in a limited space or without the use of a shelf, while leaving the lithophanies easily detachable for customer presentation. Its length can be adjusted between 3 and 10 meters.
